HOW TO FIND A JOB IN FRANCE AS A FOREIGNER? PART 2

HOW TO FIND A JOB IN FRANCE — PART 2

YOUR FRENCH!

Some of you asked how fluent you need to be in French in order to find a job here…

I think it’s hard to have a benchmark so I’ll use my own experience instead.

Starting from my interview, then the contract, insurance policies, and documents, everything was in French in my case. It’s not surprising to experience a full French meeting, phone call, or email conversation. For sure you will meet some helpful colleagues who would ask if there’s any non-French speaker, but you know, it’s not really a nice thing to let everyone change their language just for you, so just keep trying hard! But if you’re talking to someone who’s really reluctant to speak English, I can only say good luck with Google translate *a tap on the shoulder*

So the barriers of not speaking French is (as I’ve experienced so muchhhhh)

We will find it very difficult to understand our daily job contents, and to network with some colleagues… And they are indeed valid and convincing criteria for the company to reject the candidates.

TBH I found it hard to accept but it’s understandable now. There needs to be a strong reason for them to hire a foreigner if that persons doesn’t have huge credits from her/his experience, and when they know nothing about that candidate.

Of course, it’s not impossible to find something if you don’t know the language, but as a person who’ve gone through all these, I would say… be mentally prepared always for the challenge!
