Taking The Step To Child Number Three

Considerations from a very proud Dad already in the know

Having just celebrated the birth of our third child, I’ve been reflecting on our decision and thought that it’s a story worth sharing.

As many parents will vouch for, the number of children you have as a family is not a decision to take lightly.

I was raised with one other sibling and there is a five year age gap between us, which meant I had an experience of being the only child for a good while.

This is a world away from my wife, who was one of three sisters, with smaller age gaps.

Our childhood life experiences were drastically different and this was one of the key drivers in our decisions. You really need to consider what you want out of life with all of this and one thing that we decided was that we wanted a network around us and around them, for support, love and enjoyment.

If you’ve got this far, I’ve listed below some practical considerations. If you take this step, a lot of change will follow!

We are currently comfortable with our pleasant two and three quarter bed 1930s semi, although, without some serious extending and reconfiguration, it probably won’t be our forever home.

Bedroom size and layout are the key issues and I do believe that the gender of your children makes a difference to this.

We have had boy, girl, boy. My sister in law has had three girls and although it’s not sustainable, she’s managed to make do with a two bed house for over 7 years now. It’s just becoming a problem now as their eldest is starting to need a little more room.
